19:00 – Meeting called to order, Det. Commandant David Foy. Colors salute and Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Marines Hymn led by Sgt-at-Arms. Chaps provided the opening prayer and a blessing. Acting Adjutant made roll-call and determined “All present” (minus the Junior Prior Commandant) with 18 total members in attendance.

19:04 – Prayer requests were solicited by Chaplain, including remembrance for deceased members & family, several currently battling illness, and members’ families now serving in Armed Forces. John Sybrandt and Chief Brock’s “Back the Brock” needs were discussed.

19:11 – Paymaster then discussed finances, a motion was introduced by Mike Marable to forego the “Boot Drive” fundraiser this year due to changing traffic patterns, and instead rely upon donations at the USMC Ball. Motion was seconded by Chris Stebleton and passed by those in attendance upon taking a vote. Meeting progressed onto New Business.

New Business:

USMC Birthday Ball planning and considerations were discussed at length, to include our solicitation for monetary donations from local businesses. Venue for the Ball will be “The 284” located at 3155 Atlanta Hwy, Athens GA on Friday, 10 Nov 2023. Muster at 17:30, Chow starts at 18:30, cake cutting ceremony at 19:30. We will celebrate 248 years of our heritage. Guest speaker will be LtCol “Taco” Bell, for whom appreciation gift ideas were discussed.

19:27 – “Good of the League” discussion items included recruiting cards to bring in new members, and the Medal of Honor citation for LCpl Anderson (Vietnam, August 1969) was read by Chief Brock.

19:32 – Chappy recited Roll Call of Deceased Marine & Sailors of MCL Det. 1083, then offered closing prayer and well wishes until our Marine Birthday celebration.

19:37 – Meeting adjourned by Det. 1083 Commandant, and the colors retired.
