Monthly Meeting minutes from 13 May 2025

Meeting called to order by Det. Commandant Derrick Norton. Colors salute and Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Marines Hymn led by Sgt-at-Arms Fred Brooks. Chaplain Kevin Hynes provided the opening prayer and a blessing. Adjutant J.P. Brandt made a roll-call and determined “All Staff present / accounted for” with 28 total members present.
19:03 Seats & Meeting opened for business
No new members were recognized / welcomed.
Correspondence from State MCL regarding admin issues brought to League’s attention in case anyone was potentially affected…we need to procure new Colors without tassels.
Looking for volunteers to lay wreath on Memorial Day…Jim Wood will lead the charge.
19:07 – 19:09 Paymaster report
All good, received hockey fundraiser payment from Athens Rock-Lobsters, which occurred in Febraury for the Military appreciation night on 01 March 2025…one $425 check received from them in March, and 2nd check for $1,055 full payment received for $1,480 total.

Health / positive post-surgery reports from Carolynn “Beep” Hoffman still recovering from kidney stones, now stage 2 improvement over prior stage 4.

Open for New Business: proposed new committee to prep for next year’s 250th USMC Birthday Ball. Discussion regarding details of USMC Birthday to be held at Classic Center / civic center downtown on Saturday 08 November 2025 with suggestions for guest speaker & potential musical guests.
Feed homeless at Athens 1st Baptist church as group event for community.
