Monthly Meeting minutes from 08 April 2025

19:02-19:05 
Meeting called to order by Det. Commandant David Foy.  Colors salute and Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Marines Hymn led by Sgt-at-Arms alpha Doug Kilpatrick.  Chaplain Kevin Hynes provided the opening prayer and a blessing.  Adjutant J.P. Brandt made a roll-call and determined “All Staff present / accounted for” with 28 total members present.

19:05  Seats & Meeting opened for business
No new members were recognized / welcomed.
Correspondence from State MCL regarding admin issues brought to League’s attention in case anyone was potentially affected…we need to procure new Colors without tassels.

19:06 – 19:08  Paymaster report
All good, two outstanding checks. Books balanced “for real this time.”  Pending hockey fundraiser payment from Athens Rock-Lobsters, which occurred in Febraury for the Military appreciation night on 01 March 2025…one $425 check received from them, still TBD what exactly that is for, and full payment pending.

19:09 – 19:23  Chaplain’s report
Health / positive post-surgery reports from Carolynn “Beep” Hoffman still recovering from kidney stones, Chappy’s Dad laid to rest and posted duty guarding streets of gold, LT’s family traveling, Beavers’ family requesting prayers for his Son-in-Law.  Family members in need of prayers…Family & friends.  Brandt family requested prayers.

Oscar dela Madrid made motion for MCL Det to donate funds in amount of $2,500 to Beavers family to assist medical hardship expenses, motion seconded by Jim Wood and passed by unanimous vote.

19:23 – 19:30 New Business / Report of Officers & standing committees
Open for New Business:  proposed new committee to prep for next year’s 250th  USMC Birthday Ball.  Discussion regarding details of USMC Birthday to be held at Classic Center / civic center downtown on Saturday 08 November 2025 with suggestions for guest speaker & potential musical guests. 

Feed homeless at Athens 1st Baptist church as group event for community.

J.P. Brandt “Combat Adj” made suggestions for MCL Det representing military appreciation nights at Athens Rock-Lobsters home games on Friday 28 Feb & Saturday 01 March as optional mandatory fun to promote MCL 1083.

19:35 – 19:36  Special Committees / Unfinished Business
Am-Vets raffle tickets for sale, see Chappy/K.Hines.  Helmsman Beavers thought she ran over a whale at sea when Mav & Goose buzzed the tower aboard USS Harry S. Truman a.k.a. Harriet Tubman.

19:37 – 19:40  Good of the League
Adjutant read summary from Marine Corps Historical Division citation of John P. Bobo, 2nd Lt, Company I 3d Bn 9th Marines, during Vietnam War on 30 March 1967.
