Marine Corps League Det. 1083 Meeting Minutes:

9 June 2026, at Akademia, 150 Crane Drive, Athens, GA 30606, Fellowship at 1800 hrs. Meeting start at 1900 hrs.

  • 19:00 – Call to Order, Post the Colors / Pledge, Marines Hymn, Meeting Opening & Staff Roll Call.
    Head count: 27 in attendance. Sgt at Arms secures hatch; Adjutant roll call.
  • 19:03 – Opening prayer.

      1. Minutes of Previous Meeting, approved.

    2. 19:05 – Correspondence – The Commandant spoke about how Nate has been communicating with the Young Marines Program. They have an upcoming field meet Sept 11-13 and are looking for sponsors.
    3. 19:10 – Ann moved to sponsor one individual. Kilroy seconded to sponsor one out of Warner Robbins.
    4. 19:11 – All in favor of sponsoring.
    5. 19:11 – Paymasters Report by Mike Power: financials presented.
    6. 19:13 – Chaplain’s Report by Kevin Hines:
      • The detachment was thanked for all who attended Kungfu’s funeral and stories were told about him.
      • Kilroy’s brother-in-law had a stroke
      • Beep thanked for prayers of detachment for the loss of her father.
      • Prayer request for Jeff, the brother of Gerome who had a stroke due to a medication change.
      • Gerome found out his growth on the adrenal gland is likely benign.
      • Prayer request for grandson James.

    2. Senior Vice Commandant/Services/Fallen Marine Officer – none.
    3. Jr. Vice Commandant: none.
    4. Judge Advocate – none.
    5. Junior Past Commandant: none
    6. Report of Standing Committees: 19:27 Help requested tomorrow, June 10th, to feed the homeless at 1st Baptist church at 155 Pulaski St. at 0700.
    7. Report of Special Committees: 19:30 Marine Corps Birthday Ball dates discussed for possibly 7th or 8th of November.
    8. 19:31 Chappy asked if its viable to move the League’s meeting location to Butlers Crossing and for members to think over it.
  • Unfinished Business – 19:35 – none.
  • Good of the Corps – Guns & Knives
    • 19:35 Thanks for Nate for his work with Young Marines.
    • 19:35 La Madrid mentioned having a tent after the parade for veterans
    • 19:35 Matthew Johnson can assist with the VA.
    • 19:35 Plantation Buffet meetings will continue to be Fridays at 1100.
    • 19:36 Suncutter café will continue to host Tuesday morning meetings at 0730.
    • 19:36 Bookmarks and cards are available to hand out.
    • 19:37 Rox’s son was sent to Okinawa for 3 years, and read a message from him.
    • 19:43 Motion to go outside the bylaws presented by the Commandant. DJ 2nded. All in favor. The commandant announced all elected board members will stay the same.
    • 19:45 Kilroy made a motion for all bylaws to be reinstated. 2nded by Carol. All approved.
    • 19:46 Ann made a motion for the Paymaster to order Covers the detachment and members pay half. Carol 2nded, all approved.
  • Future Meeting Announcements: nothing new or unusual, next meeting will be Tuesday, 14 July 2026.
